The moment his sensor net registered MEGATRON going offline, STARSCREAM knew the battle was over, and the AllSpark lost. He converted to vehicle mode and boosted for outer space, hoping to buy enough time to rally the DECEPTICON survivors. Returning from CYBERTRON bearing the marks won during his reign over the DECEPTICON army, he is focused on conquest. With a new army behind him, he has the strength to pursue his own goals, and perhaps, when the time is right, bring MEGATRON back. Prepare to do battle DECEPTICON style! Fire either of two missiles from this eager enemy’s pop-out missile launcher in robot mode. Activate gears with a turn of STARSCREAM figure’s head! Or convert to an F-22 Raptor aircraft in vehicle mode and let your imagination soar! Recreate exciting scenes from the movie or create your own! more info

Not durable enough for my kid… parts break off easily

THe parts break off easily and it was poorly made, the other one is bulkier but get it instead of this one. i do not reccomend this toy even though the jet form is cool.

Starscream. He’s the whiney transformer we all love to hate. We didn’t get too much of him in the 1st transformers movie but hopefully he’ll play a bigger role in Revenge of the Fallen.

    For kids:

This is one slick jet. When transformed it really looks like an F-22 Raptor and it has a cool paint job. It looks a bit like camouflage but is really Cybertronian in design. He has a unique transformation to robot form and features several spinning gears in his chest that move when his head is turned. His transformation is challenging without being overwhelming. I think kids will really enjoy this guy.

    For adults:

Sorry to compare to the 1st movie’s toy of this character but it’s a comparison that needs to be made – whether you have that one or not you’ll probably get the point. I liked that one but this one puts it to shame. In jet mode the old figure looked fine but the underside was clunky and horribly fat with arms (which were really just huge missile launchers) and legs tucked under there. In all fairness it didn’t even look like a jet from the bottom. Plus his head was always peeking out at you.

Well they went back to the drawing board with this one and man is it an improvement! This is not just a repaint. Instead of big and clunky he’s sleek and smooth in jet form. The only robot bits visible at all are his hands otherwise this could be a cool little model of the F-22. The addition of the markings and symbols make him a bit more eye popping too and there are plenty of little sculpting details.

His transformation is totally different and is quite a bit of cool engineering. His head is completely hidden inside the jet and as he unfolds the body of the jet actually becomes the arms and legs and body instead of being all tucked under. It is an intricate but not an over complicated unfolding process. There are a couple of points to slot together and the tail fins that become his chest have two little black knobs that need to be matched to two little black holes as they are folded up into his body. This allows the “mech-alive” feature to work. It’s a nifty little gimmick that when you turn his head several gears move in his chest.

This new Starscream may be a touch smaller than his movie 1 counterpart but the head and body sculpt are much more accurate. Plus he actually has hands. He also has missile launchers on top of his arms and he can shoot his projectiles. The only downside I could find what that the package seems to indicate “pop-up” missile launchers but they do not pop up and are just a solid piece of the arm. I won’t knock off for that though since he’s such an improvement in execution over the other.

He’s a great fun figure with a great fun transformation that does not overwhelm.

wow my first voyager, always thought they were just bigger but they have a little more going on than the deluxe class. with starscream theres more to the mechalive movement, and that oh so sweet transformation lasts a little longer, nd he is bigger, so compared to the deluxes hes more to scale. awesome cybertronian paint job, and i love that he finally has hands, theyre very menacing, his legs support him very well and the head sculpt looks great, he has missiles and gatling guns on both arms. my only complaint is pose ability limited by joint articulation in the arms and no torso movement. but thats basically how he handled in the movie, both of them. get him, hes the one you love to hate.

The first movie Voyager Starscream was a bit of a love-hate affair. There were some good things about it… but mostly it left a lot to be desired. Placed next to some of the better designs (e.g. Ironhide), it seemed… rushed.

Thankfully, Hasbro has responded to fan feedback and listened to the criticisms. ROTF Starscream is so much better that it leaves me wondering how the first one got out! The transformation is intricate but not overly complex, with a mech-alive gimmick that’s actually quite nice. He’s got hands this time, as opposed to just cannons for arms. The head sculpt is better, and overall he’s not just cooler, but more movie accurate too. The best thing is probably the jet-mode: it’s sooo much cleaner, with far less kibble underneath.

Negatives? He’s quite a lot more difficult to balance, having smaller feet, whilst remaining top-heavy. The arms don’t pose very naturally, and sometimes can be left in an awkward look (but hey, he’s got hands!). And some might not like the new paintjob, which goes against the concept of a disguise.

Overall, this is still a very good Voyager. And so, so much better than the first incarnation.

Like I said in my review of Deep Space Starscream, ROTF Starscream seems like the second step right before the final, “perfect” movie Starscream figure. He is, like ROTF Leader Prime, a big improvement: His jet mode LOOKS like an F-22 Raptor, and his robot mode is great with a fun transformation. The only thing with his F-22 mode is his hands tend to stick out in the back. You can angle the arms though to fix this for the most part. In my opinion, he has one of the most fun transformations of the ROTF line. The whole process just seems to flow. Take note, if you look at the product picture here on the website, those wings that stick out can fold down to look more movie accurate. In robot mode, I think the Cybertronian tattoos add alot to his look. Great articulation aside from his wrists: they can only move up and down, no rotation or side-to-side. His missiles are much less sensitive than the 2007 movie figure. The Mech-Alive spinning gears adds a nice touch. So my problem with this guy? He’s tiny. He doesn’t stand much taller than Bumblebee. If you notice, in the movies, Starscream is huge. I would have liked to see him at least the same size as is 2007 counterpart. He seems very durable, so small kids can play with him. Good figure, and I can’t wait to see TF3 Starscream.

I just want to add that pictures don’t make it justice… is much nicer in real life. I thought it wouldn’t be standing stable… fortunately I was mistaken. I already have Ironhide from previous movie and this Starscream is a fine addition to my collection. I decided to buy this after looking some very good pictures of this decepticon on Flickr… give it a try, you won’t regret it.

    Difficult to work, bad instructions

the box said this was for 5+ year olds, but this is a very complex transformer with many small parts that need to be rotated to go from the fighter jet to Starscream. It took my son and his buddy about 2 hours to figure it out, with my help in between. The instructions are, sorry to say, crap. The printing budget must have been cut, because, although it is a large sheet of paper, but each step is so small and not really clear. They should have used both sides of the paper and made each step larger. Even I am having a hard time deciphering what needs to be turned which direction. My son (9) seems to have mastered it now, but my younger one (7) is still having difficulty with his Ironhide.

Caution: Although they look cool (and they are), be prepared for some frustration over how tight the pieces are and how bad the directions are. I would not give this to a 5 year old unless I had a lot of patience to assist.

As we all that played with or simply looked at the first transformers movie starscream remember; what was with all the bulk? This one is a much better and cleaner version. Yes, he has hands finally. Though, don’t expect to be able to do much with them. I like this version much better in robot mode than the last for the simple fact that he is sleeker and meaner looking. And, as pointed out before, his jet mode is a more truer likeness of his real-life proto-form. I can’t seem to keep my hands off him. So, i bought two! One in the box for display. The other for my personal amusement.
